Barry Rosenthal

Barry Rosenthal is a photographer and practicing artist who has worked in photography since 1970’s. He studied photography at the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio, and later studied with photographers Emmet Gowin and George Tice at the Apeiron Workshops in Millerton, New York.

His work as an artist has been exhibited widely and is held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Springfield Museum of Fine Art in Massachusetts, and the Black Gold Museum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As a photographer, Rosenthal brings the perspective of an artist to the documentation of artwork. He understands that accurately photographing a work means more than simply making a technically correct picture. Color, texture, surface, scale, materials, and the way a work is constructed all have to be considered.

His approach is collaborative. He works directly with artists, galleries, museums, collectors, and publishers to produce accurate, high-resolution photographs for exhibitions, submissions, publications, collections, and archival documentation.

Rosenthal is also known for his own photographic practice, including Found in Nature, an ongoing body of work made from objects collected along the shoreline of New York Harbor.
